Hey friends! Welcome to another Indie Author Spotlight Bonus Episode! Hopefully you read the feature on Romany over on The Writer's Workout website, where I'm a volunteer. Also, fun fact, I've interviewed Romany here on my website last summer, so you don't want to miss out on that interview.

What does your writing ritual look like?
Writing for me is a mix of chaos and calm. I snatch moments wherever I can—twenty minutes here, an hour there. My house is rarely quiet, but I make it work. Music helps me flow through the first draft, but once I hit editing mode, I need complete silence. No distractions when it’s time to shape the story.
What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received as an Indie Author?
The worst advice I’ve received is to rush the process. Writing isn’t a race. Sure, we all want our books out there, but quality over speed always. If you’re not willing to take the time to get it right, you’ll end up with a half-finished story, and no one wants that.
What’s your go-to book, movie, or musical artist when you need some inspiration (or just a break from the keyboard)? Why?
I love getting lost in historical dramas or novels that immerse me in a world of grit and resistance. Right now, I’m in love with Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, and anything with a heavy dose of drama and complex characters is my jam. Plus, I like to indulge in historical drama series—the costumes alone are worth it.

If you could give one piece of advice to an aspiring author, what would it be?
Find your voice, but don’t be afraid to make a mess along the way. It’s easy to get lost in perfectionism, but those first drafts? They’re supposed to be messy. Embrace it. The story will find its way.
Any other tidbits you wanna share?
I’m always up for a good book chat or writerly advice swap! Don’t be afraid to reach out. And as for me, I’m just here trying to balance writing, teaching, and occasionally leaving the house to enjoy the Cornish coast (when I’m not buried in my writing cave).
