Hey friends! Welcome to another Indie Author Spotlight Bonus Episode! Hopefully you read the feature interview I did with author Adele Liles, a school teacher and YA author. That interview is over on The Writer's Workout website. As you know, I'm a volunteer at WW and I love to help spread the word about new Indie Authors I meet.

What does your writing ritual look like?

I mostly write on Saturdays and on summer vacations from work. As a teacher, I don’t get a lot of time during the week/school year to be able to write. I can occasionally squeeze in some writing during the week, but I prefer to be able to sit for several hours and write as opposed to shorter sessions.

What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received as an Indie Author?

Not to edit as you go. My brain likes a clean draft and won’t let me move on if the draft is chaotic. The only right way is what gets you to the end!

What’s your go to book, movie or musical artist when you need some inspiration (or just a break from the keyboard)? Why?

Thrillers of all kinds! It’s just my favorite genre. I’ve always fancied myself quite the Nancy Drew. I also shamelessly watch a ridiculous amount of reality tv.

If you could snap your fingers and be “known” for one piece of your writing, what would it be? Is it something already published? Or is it something in your heart you’ve not yet written?

That’s a tough one. On the one hand, I think what I did with Among the Whisperings is pretty cool. An editor once told me “I can’t believe you took The Great Gatsby and managed to turn it into a modern YA thriller.” So, yeah, I did that. And that’s pretty awesome!

But I think in Eliminated (which comes out in July) and in my current secret WIP, I really learned how to deliver voice. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on the voice in those, and I hope readers fall in love with the voice, too.

Any other tidbits you wanna share?

Don’t wait to start chasing your dreams. I wish I hadn’t waited so long to start on mine!
